After what seems a considerably long time made worse by the miserable weather , I have now installed the three sculptures representing some of the writings of E Nesbit . There is the Psammead from the Five Children and It . If you are wondering a Psammead is a sand fairy who grants wishes but you have to be careful what you wish for. There is the Dragon from the book of Dragons and finally the Phoenix , from the Phoenix and the Carpet . All the pieces are made from sweet chestnut
In keeping with recent months , it snowed all day . Hence the images look as if the sculptures have been dipped in the moat which surrounds the site .They are in the Well Hall Pleasaunce , in Eltham , London . For a country boy this park is a welcome oasis in a desert of urbanisation
The response was favourable from those who ventured out in the snow . I hope this will continue . It is quite difficult to leave behind characters which taken up 3 -4 months of your life . They have been an enourmous presence in the workshop . Although they are inanimate and made of wood they do make a noise in the shed , which is now silent . I feel a little bereft .
I will have a short moment of mourning before I start anything else
I hope they are happy where they are
